Select Your Market.
In April 1939 the National Electrical Manufacturers Association of the USA acted to promote the sale of automatic electric irons. They created a Fathers Day Poster that highlighted the assorted benefits of an automatic iron and distributed the poster throughout the USA. It is respectfully suggested that the National Electrical Manufacturers Association of the USA did not properly address the market (i.e.: electric iron were, in 1939, sold mainly to women).
Printed Posters and Modern Art — In October 12 1958 an exhibition of war posters opened in the New York Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition remained open until mid-November, after which it traveled the USA in reduced form.
Posters and Liberty Bonds — In September 1918 millions of posters were plastered though out the USA urging citizens to purchase liberty bonds. Ten different poster designs were selected. Hostilities ended less than two months after.
Poster Printing and Persecution — On 11th April 1933 the authorities in London lifted a ban on posters that urged a boycott of German good because of the persecution of Jews in Germany at the time. Police had requested that the printed posters, displayed in predominantly Jewish shops in London’s East End, be removed the previous day.
STD Posters in Bars and Pubs — Calgary Health Region is using posters and coaster displayed around bars to encourage visitors to the annual Calgary Stampede to practice safe sex. Thousands of printed colour posters are being used. One poster reads: "Bronc riding, chute dogging, pole bending. And the rodeo events should be fun too. Whatever you do, play safe". Another features a man saying, "I'll pull out" surrounded by photos of his 15 children. The annual Calgary Stampede (a rodeo event) leads to increased transmission of STDs.
